Nordcert’s mission is to work toward good quality and quality development within our product areas − Reinforcement, concrete, aggregates, and steel. Nordcert certification leads to sustainable and durable construction.
We offer certification of products, processes, and persons, and we participate in education and the confirmation of competence.
Most of our clients are product manufacturers that, through Nordcert certification, earn the right to mark their products with any of the marks SBS, BBC or CE/1505.
For each product area, Nordcert has drafted certification rules in which requirements for becoming certified are stated.
For a new certification, the general process begins with a client application, and if requirements of the certification rules are met, ends with an issued certificate. The general process also comprises routines for maintaining/upholding and terminating the certificate.
The main part of Nordcert´s certification activities for the BBC and SBS mark is performed under Swedish accreditation, i.e., our competence and routines are verified by the independent authority SWEDAC.
As for certification against the CE/1505 marking, Nordcert is a Notified Body to the EU. Notification is performed by SWEDAC, which is authorised by the Swedish Government.
Nordcert is co-owned by the two non-profit foundations, Stiftelsen Betong och Ballastindustrins Kvalitetsutveckling (SBBK) and Stiftelsen för Byggstålskvalitet.
Our work is supported by technical councils that bring together representatives of clients, contractors, and experts. Members of the technical councils are appointed by the Nordcert board of directors.
The SBS marking certifies and ensures that the requirements of the Swedish Construction Rules within the areas of the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) and the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) are met.
Products bearing the SBS marking require only a simplified reception control and no testing of declared properties.
The SBS mark was established in 1971 by Svensk Byggstålkontroll AB. This company was merged with Nordcert in 2001, and ever since, the SBS marking has been used as Nordcert´s certification mark in the steel industry.
The BBC marking certifies and ensures that the requirements of the Swedish Construction Rules within the areas of the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) and the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) are met.
Products bearing the BBC marking require only a simplified reception control and no testing of declared properties.
The BBC mark was established in 1993 by Betong och Ballast Certifiering AB. This company was merged with Nordcert in 2001, and ever since, the BBC mark has been used as Nordcert´s certification mark for the concrete and aggregates product areas.
The CE marking is the marking used by the EU for certifying that some basic properties are declared. The company must, after approved certification, draft a Declaration of performance, and then CE mark the product according to the EU´s Construction Product Regulations, CPR.
States within the EU must, after examination, notify competent bodies to the EU Commission. The Notified Bodies are given a notification number, which is affixed in connection with the CE marking used on product declarations and CE declarations.
Nordcert has been assigned number 1505.
The CE marking is used as a product mark.
